Kenneth Branagh Set to Play Sir Laurence Olivier in My Week with Marilyn

Kenneth Branagh is set to play Sir Laurence Olivier in My Week with Marilyn alongside Michelle Williams. The story is based on a diary from the perspective of Colin Clark, a personal assistant to Olivier unofficially assigned to Marilyn Monroe (played by Williams) on the set of 1957’s The Princess and the Showgirl. Clark’s account of the events deliberately left out a week’s worth of details, and the film will supposedly reveal what happened in the missing excerpt.

Branagh only recently wrapped shooting on Marvel’s Thor, but it's reported he is in talks for the Monroe film which is tentatively scheduled to shoot in September.

Ralph Fiennes was also considered for the part of Olivier, but evidently his own directorial duties on Coriolanus prevented him from taking the role.

A second, more broad account of Marilyn’s life is in the works based on Joyce Carol Oates’ faux memoir “Blonde.” Naomi Watts plays Marilyn in this feature.
