Quotes -Marilyn Monroe

December 2010
I believe everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go. Things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right. You believe lies so that you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself & sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

At Auction: Marilyn Monroe Worn Dress...From Robert Slatzer?

December 2010

Up for auction at Don Presley Auctions is a black dress allegedly worn by Marilyn Monroe, originally from the collection of none other than Robert Slatzer, alleged husband and confidant of Monroe. Of course, accompanying the dress and serving as "provenance" are snapshots of Slatzer with Marilyn at Niagara Falls. These photos serve as the one piece of evidence that Slatzer was ever associated with Marilyn, even if only as a fan posing for a photo with the Hollywood legend, much less her husband.

The lot description:

MARILYN MONROE DRESS

Two-piece eyelet-trimmed black ensemble with 20th Century Fox studio label, purported to have been worn by Marilyn Monroe. Includes books, pictures and letter from former husband Bob Slatzer stating that the dress was owned and worn by Marilyn Monroe for provenience. 20th Century Fox Label. Dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s.

Slatzer himself reported that he and Marilyn were married during a quick weekend trip down to Mexico from Los Angeles and when Fox Studios found out, it was demanded that the marriage be annulled. Interestingly, it's been verified that Marilyn wrote a check in Los Angeles the same weekend Slatzer reported that they were married, thus raising serious doubt and suspicion that they ever were actually married. Further, many of Slatzer's other outlandish claims have never been verified (Marilyn had a red diary in which she wrote about her relationships with the Kennedy brothers, Marilyn called him the night she died, Marilyn always carried a bag of change so she could talk on a payphone rather than her home phone because it was bugged, etc.).

Regardless of his claims, none of Marilyn's close personal friends ever verified that Slatzer even knew Marilyn. Also, his name has never been found in any of Marilyn's personal address/phone books. In my opinion, this dress up for auction was never worn by Marilyn. Unfortunately, buyers are bidding. The current price: $325.00. View the online auction listing here.

Marilyn Monroe at Bonhams

December 2010
See below Marilyn Monroe highlights from recent auctions at Bonhams in San Francisco and Los Angels, December, 2010.

Sale 18411 - Fine Books and Manuscripts Including English and Continental Books from a San Francisco Estate, 9 Dec 2010

Lot No: 6191
MARILYN MONROE AT JFK PARTY.
A group of 29 negatives and 23 gelatin silver prints, May 19, 1962, the negatives all on black and white Kodak 120 roll film except for 3 which are on black and white Kodak 35 mm film, the gelatin silver prints 11 x 11 to 7½ x 7½ inches, printed later. The negatives contained in an envelope marked in Stoughton's hand "Sensitive material, Do not file, Protect trash, no extra prints please."

"Sensitive material"—one of very few photographs showing Marilyn Monroe with John and Robert Kennedy. JFK held a democratic fundraiser on May 19, 1962 at the Manhattan home of Arthur and Mathilde Krim; Stoughton is believed to have been the only photographer at the party. Among the notable guests at the party was none other than Marilyn Monroe, who came straight from Madison Square Gardens where she had sung "Happy Birthday" to the President, and who was still wearing the same tight, pearl-encrusted dress.

Stoughton's negatives show a smiling Marilyn being led through guests, JFK socializing, the band, and general party scenes. JFK appears in upwards of a dozen of the negatives, and it is reasonable to believe that these images have never been published. Later prints of many of the negatives are included in the lot.
One negative is missing, and is represented here by a later gelatin silver print. It shows Marilyn talking to the President, Robert Kennedy, and Arthur Schlesinger Jr. Rumour has it that the Secret Service had strict instructions not to allow Kennedy and Monroe to be photographed together. Notwithstanding that instruction, Stoughton managed to snap one such frame, in which JFK noticeably turns his head away from the camera. Despite being later asked by the Secret Service to hand over all of the incriminating negatives, he managed to save one, and from it produced the present print.

Sold for $9,150 inclusive of Buyer's Premium

Lot Notice
This lot does not include any negatives, but does contain the 23 photographs described.

(Please note there are condition issues with this photograph: it has been slightly trimmed though signature is not affected, there is some surface chipping around MM's hair, face, and dress, there is a crease in her forehead and over her left eye, and there is a very thin line of masking tape residue on the top and bottom margins.)

Five total; vintage prints with a glossy finish; depicting the then-starlet performing on stage in an "employee only" show at 20th Century Fox called 'Strictly for Kicks' that took place in early 1948. Unfortunately, four of the five were taken from many feet away, but MM still stands out, especially since she's wearing the same black evening gown from "Ladies of the Chorus." Also included are two copies of the April 1948 issue of 'Action,' the internal Fox newsletter, where two of the snapshots are pictured on page 10 next to text reading "Marilyn Monroe revealing the 'secret of her success'..."

John 5 Habla De Marilyn Manson Y Menciona Disco Inédito En La Era Holy Wood Llamado "The Factory"

December 2010

It’s An Emergency

December 2010
Got a lady on the line, screaming
I’m what she need, oh
I done got this call a thousand times
I’m leaving, rushing to see, oh
I got the sirens on, (I’m running every light)
She said she’s home alone, (and need it in her life)
Until I get there just, stay on the line

It’s an emergency
I’m rushing there to handle mine
It’s an emergency
Cause we aint got a lot of time
I gotta save her, if I’m any later
Somebody might get there before me
Emergency
That 9-1-1’s for me, emergency
