At Auction: Marilyn Monroe Worn Dress...From Robert Slatzer?

Up for auction at Don Presley Auctions is a black dress allegedly worn by Marilyn Monroe, originally from the collection of none other than Robert Slatzer, alleged husband and confidant of Monroe. Of course, accompanying the dress and serving as "provenance" are snapshots of Slatzer with Marilyn at Niagara Falls. These photos serve as the one piece of evidence that Slatzer was ever associated with Marilyn, even if only as a fan posing for a photo with the Hollywood legend, much less her husband.

The lot description:

MARILYN MONROE DRESS

Two-piece eyelet-trimmed black ensemble with 20th Century Fox studio label, purported to have been worn by Marilyn Monroe. Includes books, pictures and letter from former husband Bob Slatzer stating that the dress was owned and worn by Marilyn Monroe for provenience. 20th Century Fox Label. Dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s.

Slatzer himself reported that he and Marilyn were married during a quick weekend trip down to Mexico from Los Angeles and when Fox Studios found out, it was demanded that the marriage be annulled. Interestingly, it's been verified that Marilyn wrote a check in Los Angeles the same weekend Slatzer reported that they were married, thus raising serious doubt and suspicion that they ever were actually married. Further, many of Slatzer's other outlandish claims have never been verified (Marilyn had a red diary in which she wrote about her relationships with the Kennedy brothers, Marilyn called him the night she died, Marilyn always carried a bag of change so she could talk on a payphone rather than her home phone because it was bugged, etc.).

Regardless of his claims, none of Marilyn's close personal friends ever verified that Slatzer even knew Marilyn. Also, his name has never been found in any of Marilyn's personal address/phone books. In my opinion, this dress up for auction was never worn by Marilyn. Unfortunately, buyers are bidding. The current price: $325.00. View the online auction listing here.
