He is an American politician, who served as a U.S. The son of a mill worker and shop owner, John Edwards was raised in the small town of Robbins, North Carolina. He defeated incumbent Republican Lauch Faircloth in North Carolina's 1998 Senate election.

Edwards again ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, but withdrew in January of 2008 after trailing Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama through the early primaries. After several disappointing finishes in the primaries and caucuses, Edwards suspended his campaign on Jan. 30, 2008. He endorsed Sen.
