Born to Bernard Hopkins, Sr. and his wife Sue, Bernard grew up in the Raymond Rosen projects with his family. For years, watching the future hall of fame middleweight and light heavyweight champion in the ring has been like watching a master painter at work. He immediately joined the professional boxing ranks as a light heavyweight, losing his debut on October 11, 1988, in Atlantic City, New Jersey to Clinton Mitchell.

On April 14, 2001, Hopkins won a unanimous decision over WBC champion Keith Holmes in New York City. In a thorough and dominating performance in his most recent outing in October 2008, Hopkins won a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Kelly Pavlik, Experience, skill and speed were displayed by the ageless 'B-Hop' and Pavlik (34-1) just didn't have any answer and he lost 11 of the 12 rounds.
