Elizabeth Smart Biography - Elizabeth Smart was born on December 27, 1913 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She was a Canadian poet and novelist. Elizabeth Smart was born into the bourgeois family of Russel S. Smart, a barrister, and Emma Louise Parr Smart on 27 December 1913.
She began writing at an early age, publishing her first poem at the age of ten and compiling a collection of poetry at 15. At the conclusion of her studies at Hatfield Hall, she and her sister were sent to England for a year since Smart was not permitted by her mother to enter university.
In 1937 she gained employment as the secretary to Margaret (Mrs. Alfred) Watt, head of the Associated Country Women of the World. Elizabeth Smart died in London on 4 March 1986.
